The boy and his family walk out of the office into the cold of winter, clutching their coats around them and the address of the hotel.
Everything they now own in the whole world is in the bags they're carrying.
The boy's father goes over to a policeman and asks him where they can find their hotel. They speak for a while, neither of them able to understand the other.
Finally, the policeman signals over a taxi driver and the driver knows the address. He tells them to get in the cab.
It's tight fit with the whole family in one car. They all sit in the back because they want to be together. The boy looks in wonder at the sights of the city as they drive past, giant buildings reaching into the sky on every corner.
