This is the story of Heinz Karl Apostel, a German immigrant to the United States after World War I.

His family and he experienced tremendous hardship both in their journey to and settlement in America

He would aid in the World War II war effort against the Nazis, and then work as the chief mechanic for Pan Am Airways. While working as chief mechanic, he invented the luggage belt prototype that is still being used in every major international airport.

In present day, it seems inconceivable that a German immigrant could experience the level of hardship that Karl and his family were exposed to.

I wonder how history will judge the treatment of refugees now?
